A staple hearty Pakistani meal, aaloo keema or keema aaloo is made using ground beef (aka keema) and potatoes. It is usually served with naan, roti or chapati and is delicious with Basmati rice too. Try it with a dollop of fresh yogurt and fresh lime!

Ingredients

  • 0.5 kg. Minced Beef

  • 250 grms. Potatoes (cut in small pieces)

  • 2 Tomatoes-chopped

  • 1 Onion (large size)-finely chopped

  • 6 tbs. Vegetable Oil

  • 6 Black Pepper (Kali Mirch)-whole

  • 6 Cloves (Laung)

  • 1 Black Cardamom (Bari Ilaichi)

  • 0.25 tsp. Cumin Seeds (Zeera)

  • 1 tsp. Coriander (Dhaniya)-powder

  • 1 tsp. Salt (adjust to taste).

  • 0.25 tsp. Turmeric (Haldi)-powder

  • 0.75 tsp. Chili (Lal Mirch)-powder

  • 1 tsp. Ginger (Adrak)-paste

  • 1 tsp. Garlic (Lehsan)-paste

  • 0.5 tsp. Garam Masala-powder

  • 2 Green Chilis

  • 2 tbs. Fresh Dhaniya/Cilantro-leaves

  • 1 inch Fresh Ginger

  • 1 tsp. Lime-juice

  • 0.5 tsp. Garam Masala-powder

Directions

  • Sauté onion in oil until light brown.
  • Add all the spices and finely chopped tomatoes.
  • Cook on medium heat till water is almost dried.
  • Add minced meat, mix and cook to dry the water again.
  • Add 2 cups of water, cover and cook till meat is tenderized and the water dries.
  • Add potatoes and cook till the potatoes are soft.
  • Sprinkle garam masala powder.
  • Garnish with fresh green coriander (Dhaniya) leaves, green chilies, ginger (Adrak) slices and lime juice.
  • Serve with naan
